Captain America: The First Avenger
I love this movie. The best way to describe this film is to call it a “rip-roaring piece of retro pulp.” Chris Evans is a perfect Captain America, Tommy Lee Jones stole every scene he was in and Hayley Atwell keeps up the strong/cool/highly likable woman theme like in Thor, Hulk and Iron Man.
I also really dug the crew that fought alongside Cap. They call themselves The Howling Commandoes and I always liked seeing them on screen.
The director Joe Johnston knocked this film out of the park. You might know Johnston as the creator of Boba Fett’s costume and the director of The Rocketeer. Johnston directed last years The Wolfman. The film was panned but he was only given two weeks to prep after the first director dropped out. After watching The Wolfman I wondered what he could have done with more time. That question was answered with Captain America. Marvel found a perfect director.
The movie flows at a nice pace and the action scenes are spectacularly done. What I love most is that they took the time to develop Chris Evans character. You really like the guy. When he gets his super strength he doesn’t follow the cliché of getting too full of himself. He still can’t talk to women and never loses himself. That is why it will be great to see him alongside Thor and Iron Man. The three have completely different personalities. and I can’t wait to see them become a team.
Watch Captain America. Dig the vibe. Count down the days until The Avengers assemble.
