Matt Dillon crushed it.

The MFF podcast is back, and this week we were honored to talk The House That Jack Built with Jonny Numb (AKA Horror Review Master). Directed by Lars von Trier (Antichrist, Melancholia), The House That Jack Built is a gnarly descent into hell that features freezing corpses, skin wallets and the worst hunting trip ever. The movie never plays it safe (which was to be expected), and in this episode we discuss its violent tendencies, unreliable narrator and darkly comedic moments. Enjoy!

If you are a fan of the podcast make sure to send in some random listener questions so we can do our best to not answer them correctly. We thank you for listening and hope you enjoy the pod!

Wow. Not that I have any issue with spoilers in podcasts (it’s essentially why I’m listening in the first place–for a deep dive into film), but I really appreciate how much you two manage to discuss the film without really spoiling the film. I got a great idea of the nuance and flavor of so many scenes without feeling like I’ve been “told” the movie.

It’s all Jonny Numb. Dude knows what’s up. Glad you enjoyed!

I was also quite surprised that the discussion didn’t revolve around brutality. Not that the film doesn’t sound heavy, but it seems the film has a lot more cheekiness to offer than I expected given past Lars films and what I gleaned from the trailers/teasers.

I’ve seen a lot worse (Antichrist….). After reading a lot about the movie it seems like people were primed to be offended. However, I was expecting more brutality, but saw through it and enjoyed the ride.
