Jay and Mark are joined by Fred Topel (@FredTopel on Twitter) to discuss the original cut of Deep Blue Sea. Fred was at the original test screening of the film, and he tells us what the film was like before the reshoots that killed off Dr. Susan McAlester (Saffron Burrows), and gave Preacher (LL Cool J) a larger role. In this episode, they also discuss Renny Harlin’s filmography, Scott Adkins, and rushed reshoots. Enjoy!

Susan saving the day was a better ending. Everyone saw her as a mad scientist or a villain, but not like many I really payed attention to the movie. Susan did what she did to find a cure something good for the world. Because of these jerk audience that judge her before actually paying attention they would have seen that. Everyone says that it was all her fault, but remember that she never told Jim to stand right next to the shark’s mouth and it was the helicopter that dropped Jim leading to the choas. This is my favorite movie of all time, but I freaking hated the ending having Susan saving the day made better sense to the movie because did everyone forget that preacher got bitten he wouldn’t have had the strength to get up and shoot the shark. But, I guess shark bites don’t hurt and trying to find a cure is a bitch right. I am a man and I respect women very much I am pretty sure if Susan were to have been a man character everyone would have let this slide and having him save the day like much of the movies nowadays. When I heard that people cheered when she died should me how stupid people can be and how they have their heads up there asses. We may never get to see the original ending they should have let the rest of us judge the ending. What happened to the saying we are humans we make mistakes. Susan deserved to correct her mistake just like we deserved to correct our mistakes. Please at least release the original ending for those that wanted Susan to live and not die because of some dump jackasses that saw her as the villain.
DeepBlueSeaPod we had a little debate on Twitter this morning about Susan I respect that you love and share a passion for deep blue sea as much as me and many others. The ending of deep blue sea made me so mad I remembered that it made me cry from anger when I was little boy. I would be at peace and believe many others if they were to release the original ending where Susan lives. This movie is my life it is the greatest shark movie ever, so I had a question for you. Would you encourage your followers to sign the petition for deep blue sea to release the original ending on change.org? If release it would make my childhood dream come true. I love that there are people out there that loved this movie as much as me. We may have had a disagreement on Susan, but we can both agree that we all share passion towards deep blue sea even after 20 years later. You can answer my question on Twitter my username is @EdgarSam19. This podcast is great and represents the greatest shark movie ever. Thank you hitting a like on my other comment.
